A Docker Image Snapshot (DIS) is generated on the following scenarios:

The "Cache Docker Images" setting must be enabled in the repository
Squash saves a snapshot of a deployment based on a md5sum of the Dockerfile or docker-compose file used by the deployment.

The DIS is mainly used to cache libraries used during the Docker build process. Squash will still retrieve the latest version of your source code on each deployment.

When Persistent Storage is enabled for a deployment Squash will restore all the docker container data stored (such as the application's database and local files) in the original run. Squash will not attempt to update the application's source code in this scenario.

A Persistent Storage only applies to a single branch and deployment.

Please note that It may take several minutes for a persistent storage to be ready for the next deployments once a deployment is terminated.

You can enable or turn off Persistent Storage by going to the deployment details page and clicking on Settings.

Warning: persistent storage is enabled for this deployment. Squash will automatically erase the disk and build a new deployment from scratch.
